Chimney Sweep Service

Some Chimney Cleaning Questions Answered

Q: How should I prepare before having the chimney swept?
A: Please remove any hot ash the night before and clear the area in front of fireplace.

Q: What happens to the soot?
A: Once it has been bagged from the vacuum we can dispose of it, or leave it with you if you desire (it has some excellent gardening properties).

Q: Can I have a fire the night before having the chimney swept?
A: With open fires and stoves, you can have a fire but hot ash must be removed before we arrive. Ranges, Rayburns, Agas and boilers should be put out or turned off at least 24 hours before having the chimney swept to allow time to cool down. If you are unsure please contact us.

Q: Do I need to have my chimney cleaned if I have a gas fire?
A: Blockages in chimneys connected to gas fires can lead to a build-up of carbon monoxide or other harmful gases. Please contact us and we can advise.

Q: I have birds nesting in my chimney, what should I do?
A: After a few weeks, the young will grow up and fly away. After they leave, the nesting material can then be removed from the chimney and a bird-guard fitted to ensure that they cannot return.

When & why does your chimney need sweeping?

It is a good idea to have your chimney swept on a regular basis - at least annually if you use your fire or appliance regularly - to ensure safe operation of your chimney.
