You can reach the Sequoia High Sierra Camp from Fresno (via Highway 180) or from Visalia (via Highway 198). Both routes enter the Sequoia/King's Canyon National Park boundaries from the west; there is no road access from the east.
We highly recommend taking route 180 (from Fresno) – it is an easier drive, less winding and not as prone to traffic and/or road maintenance delays. Following are driving directions from both directions:
Directions from Fresno
We suggest that you turn off your GPS and follow these instructions. First, take Ca 180 east from Fresno all the way to the entrance station of Kings Canyon National Park. There is no gas in the park, so fill up in Squaw Valley or Dunlap. Proceed through the park entrance station (about 53 miles from Fresno ). Sequoia and Kings Canyon share the same park entrance gates. One mile past the entrance, turn right at the General Highway intersection. The sign directs you towards Sequoia National Park. You will now be on the Generals Highway. This highway doesn’t have a number like 180 or 198 it is simply called The Generals Highway. Follow this road for 8 miles and look on your right for the Big Baldy Trailhead sign. Soon after the Big Baldy sign, look to the left and you will see and turn left onto the Big Meadows/Horse Corral Road. This road is marked with a sign indicating horseback riding. Turn left onto this road.

Directions from Visalia
Take Highway 99 to Visalia. Exit Highway 198 east to the Sequoia National Park entrance (about 45 miles). You will now be on the Generals Highway. Follow this road for approximately 40 miles until you see the sign for Big Meadows/Horse Corral Road on your right. This road is marked with a sign indicating horseback riding. Turn right onto this road.

A $20 park entrance fee (valid for up to 7 days) is imposed by the National Park Service and collected at the park entrance booths.

There are no gas stations within the national park boundaries. Please be sure to fill up on the way in

Cell phone service is poor to non-existent because of the great distance to cell towers and the rugged terrain. Some pay phones are located along both routes
